Drinking and Driving Accidents KILL!

Alcohol kills thousands every year.
On average, 45% of all car accidents with fatalities were from drunk drivers. One person shares this story:

My friends and I were at a party. After having only 2 drinks each, we decided to go home. No one was designated to drive, and we got careless on the road. Alcohol debilitated my reaction time. I was driving. I hit another car coming directly at us after crossing over the center line. I killed two people that night - one of them a friend in my car... it is something I will never forget and it will always haunt me.

You endanger others when you drink.
Last year alone, millions of people were at risk of losing their life because of other people's poor choices to drink. Another viewer relates this experience:
It was getting late - I didn't realize how drunk I had become. By the time I had my 4th drink for new year's celebration, I had become violent. Thank goodness I was not driving anywhere that night. Without intention, I seriously injured my little brother and almost killed my parents.

Alcohol is a poison.
All it takes is a small amount of alcohol the body is not used to or cannot handle before it becomes fatally harmful. This is usually around 8 drinks for new drinkers, and 15 for more aged ones.
My father could never stop drinking - it was horrible, he would come home and fight with my mom and the rest of us. He then continued drinking. One night, though, he overdid it and had 17 cans of beer. He died that night in his sleep...

Drinking destroys families.
Continued consumption of alcohol - especially around family members - can and will destroy your family if somebody close to you is addicted. One final viewer tells us:
My dad had an alcohol problem and ended up cheating on my mom with another woman when I was only 3. Then my mom met another guy when I was 5, and they've been going fine until last year, when the guy developed an alcohol problem and cheated on my mom. They still love each other but my mom feels she can't get back together with him because he has an alcohol problem which he can't do anything about as he can't stop drinking.

What you should do
- Designate a driver if you are going to be around beer/alcohol.
- Don't stay at a party later than midnight.
- Don't drive around on New Year's Eve (this is not a joke.)
- Parents: Keep alcohol away from the children if you must have it, don't let them for goodness' sakes.
- Parents: Instruct your children and remind them the dangers of drinking.
- Bookmark this site.
- If you have an alcohol problem, call your local alcoholics anonymous or get professional help immediately. This is in the interests of saving YOUR life - the ones you love, or even strangers you don't know.
- Join a local anti-drinking campaign.
